Places to Visit in Chandigarh
Chandigarh is India’s best-planned city, with internationally acclaimed architecture and unsurpassed quality of life. Chandigarh is a famous city that serves as the capital of the Punjab and Haryana states as well as the Union Territory of Chandigarh. Chandigarh, India’s contemporary face, is the realisation of a vision conceived by Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru and realised by Le Corbusier. Serenity and a metropolis are mutually opposed notions, but the ‘City Beautiful’ proves otherwise. Chandigarh is a unique example of modernity and environmental protection coexisting. Here, trees and flora are just as important as buildings and highways in the development plans.
The CITY BEAUTIFUL, India’s first planned metropolis, is a rich, affluent, spick-and-span, green city aptly named “THE CITY BEAUTIFUL.” Chandigarh is an Indian city and union territory. The region, which is roughly 165 miles (265 kilometres) north of New Delhi, is bordered on the east by the state of Haryana and on the other sides by the state of Punjab. It is located on the Indo-Gangetic Plain, just southwest of the Siwalik Range (Shiwalik Range), between the Sukhna and Patiali rivers, which are seasonal hill torrents. The area is a flat and rich expanse of alluvial soils where wheat, corn (maize), and rice are grown in rural farming.
Temperatures in the summer (April to June) can reach above 120 degrees Fahrenheit (about 50 degrees Celsius), while temperatures in the winter (November to February) can drop to the mid-30s Fahrenheit (about 2 degrees Celsius), with regular rain storms. It is hot and humid during the monsoon season (July to September).
