Atal Tunnel, Rohtang
A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened the Atal tunnel to the public, a huge influx of tourists was seen. Atal Tunnel, the world’s longest tunnel, has become the new center of tourism in Himachal.
Located in Himachal Pradesh, this 9-km tunnel connects Lahaul in Lahaul-Spiti district and Manali in Kullu district. The Atal Tunnel is the longest highway tunnel in the world at an altitude of 10,000 feet. The longest Atal tunnel in the world connecting Manali to Leh has been completed in 10 years. This will not only reduce the distance between these two cities by 46 kilometers but will take only 3 hours instead of about 7 hours. More than nine kilometers long, this tunnel connects Manali to Lahaul Spiti valley. Now motor vehicles will be able to run on this route for years. When this tunnel was not built, the road was closed for about six months due to snowfall. The distance from Leh to Leh has also been reduced by about 40 kilometers. 40 kilometers on hilly paths means that the travel time will be reduced by four to five hours during the journey, the northern end of the tunnel opens in Sissu village.
