Baksa district or; Baksa district is an administrative district in Assam‘s Bodoland Territorial Region, one of India’s North-Eastern states. Mushalpur serves as the administrative centre.

The Baksa area has a lot of potential for tourism growth. The world-famous Manas National Park currently falls under the Baksa district, according to the district’s establishment. The following are the key tourist attractions in the district:-

  1. Manas National Park & Tiger Project:

Manas National Park and Tiger Project, located on the western part of the district in the foothills of Bhutan, is a popular tourist destination for both national and international visitors. There are 60 mammal species, 312 bird species, 42 reptile species, 7 amphibian species, 54 fish species, and over 100 insect species. Tiger, Leopard, Golden Langur, Pigmie Hog, Dhanesh Pakhi, Wild Buffalo, Bison, Python, Wild Cat, Elephant, Hyena, Fox, and other creatures are the most common. The Manas River flows through the National Park. The River Crafting facility has recently been presented to tourists. An eco-tourism destination in the Baksa area, at the mouth of the Pagladia River. In the months of December and January, it attracts a considerable number of picnickers due to its natural beauty and proximity to the Bhutan highlands. It is very new, well-kept, and managed by an NGO called Manas SoushiKhongkhor Eco Tourism Society (MASKETS). Endangered natural creatures such as Bison, Deer, Hogg Deer, White Belly Heron, Royal Bengal Tiger, and others may be found there. If necessary, MASKETS volunteers will offer food and a guest house.

A very scenic site near the mouth of the river “Barnadi” in Bhutan’s foothills, it attracts a huge number of picnic parties during the new year and Magh Bihu. In the months of December and January, far-flung river sands and boulders serve as an open-air restaurant for picnickers.

How to Reach Baksa

Baksa is a popular tourist destination in Assam that attracts visitors from all over the world. Baksa is quite near to Guwahati, therefore there are numerous options for getting there.

BY AIR:

The nearest airport to Baksa is Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati, which is around 130 kilometres from Baksa’s headquarters.

BY RAIL:

Baksa is around 35 kilometres away from the nearest train station, which is located in the Nalbari district.

BY ROAD:

There are direct bus connections to Mushalpur and Tumulpur from Guwahati’s Adabari bus station. Small vehicle services are also available from Adabari to other regions of Baksa.
