Mysuru Palace

The Palace of Mysore (also known as the Amba Vilas Palace) is a historical palace in the Karnataka town of Mysore. The Mysore Palace, designed by English architect Henry Irwin, dominates Mysore’s skyline. The palace, a three-story Indo-Saracenic complex erected between 1897 and 1912, includes magnificently designed square towers at cardinal points that are topped with domes. The Durbar Hall with its elaborate roof and carved pillars, as well as the Kalyanamantapa (marriage pavilion) with its glazed tiled flooring and stained glass, domed ceiling, are also noteworthy. Among the palace’s other treasures are intricately carved doors, the golden howdah (elephant seat), paintings, and the spectacular, jewel-encrusted golden throne (displayed during Dasara). The walled palace complex houses the Residential Museum (which includes part of the palace’s residential quarters), as well as temples and shrines such as the Shwetha Varahaswamy temple.

Mysuru Zoo (Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Garden)

Chamaraja Wodeyar X, then King of Mysuru, established the Mysuru Zoo (Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Garden) in 1892. Khas-Bangale was originally conceived as a private zoo. Thamasha Bangale was another name for it. The zoo, which today spans 250 acres, was originally intended for the royal family’s exclusive use, although public access began as early as 1920.

St Philomena’s Church

It is one of the country’s biggest churches, built in 1804 in typical Gothic style, with a main hall or mane with the figure of St. Philomena and a lavishly carved façade. The edifice contains twin spires that are 175 feet (52.50 metres) tall, stained glass windows, Corinthian columns, and plastered niches that are exceedingly decorative.

Talakadu

The Kaveri River takes a steep curve, and Talakad, also known as Talakadu, is located on the left bank. In Karnataka, India, it is 45 kilometres from Mysore and 185 kilometres from Bangalore. Talakad is a historic and archaeological site. It is not just a spiritual pilgrimage site, but also a visual beauty with huge sand expanses.

The legendary and strong Western Gangas ruled from 350 to 1050 AD before being deposed by the Cholas in the 11th century. In the 12th century, Talakad was annexed by the Hoysala Empire. Following the Hoysalas, the city was dominated by the mighty Vijayanagara Kingdom rulers and the Maharajas of Mysore.

Kabini or Kapila River

The Kabani River, sometimes known as the Kabini or Kapila, is a river in southern India. It is formed by the confluence of the Panamaram and Mananthavady rivers in Kerala’s Wayanad District. It runs eastward until it meets the Kaveri River in Tirumakudalu Narasipura in Karnataka. The Kaveri river then irrigates Tamil Nadu and serves as a major supply of drinking water before draining into the Bay of Bengal at Kaveripoompattinam.

It produces the massive Kabani Reservoir near the town of Sargur. The Kabani reservoir’s backwaters are teeming with species, especially in the summer when the water level recedes, revealing lush grassy meadows. The Kabani dam is 2,284 feet (696 metres) long, with an initial gross storage capacity of 19.52 tmcft that has been significantly decreased owing to silt deposit.

The Kabani Dam is located between the villages of Bichanahalli and Bidarahalli, 17 kilometres (11 miles) from Sargur town in Heggadadevana kote taluk, Mysuru district.

Jaganmohan Palace

Mummadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar built Jaganmohan Palace in the traditional Hindu architectural style in 1861. The beautiful carvings that decorate the whole edifice are the most outstanding characteristic of this castle. Visitors will be captivated by the artistic quality at the palace’s entryway. The main entryway of the palace is a stunning masterpiece with superb carvings on both sides. The sculptures depict Dashavatara, one of Lord Vishnu’s 10 incarnations. Its entablatures have magnificent sculptures of religious importance, such as small temples and Hindu religious symbols. The beautiful carvings on the walls of Jaganmohan Palace, on the other hand, represent royal history, ancestry of the Mysore royal dynasty, as well as murals on the Mysore Dusshera.

Railway Museum

It was founded in 1979 as a result of PM Joseph’s efforts and is located on Princess Road (near the main gate of CFTRI). Chamundi Hill

Chamundeswari temple is located on the summit of Chamundi hill, which is approximately 3,489 feet above sea level and 13 kilometres from Mysore. The temple is dedicated to Sri Chamundeswari, the titular goddess of the Mysore Royal Family who is also known as ‘Mahishasura Mardini’ for defeating the buffalo-headed monster Mahishasura.

Krishnaraja Wodeyar III erected a Gopura with gold finials and sculptures of himself and his three consorts. Krishnaraja Wodeyar III organised celebrations and processions in 1827 and presented Simhavahana in 1843.

Srikanteshwara (Nanjundeswara) Temple

Nanjangud is located on the right bank of the Kapila or Kabini River, which is a tributary of the Cauvery River. Nanjangud, also known as Garalapuri, is well-known for its massive Nanjundeswara or Srikanteswara temple. The name Nanjunda is described as Shiva taking Halahala or poison, and it is this Nanjunda who digested it to become Vishakanta or Shrikanta. As a result, the god is known as Nanjundeswara and Srikanteshwara. He is also touted as a healer of his worshippers’ illnesses.
