Athirappilly Waterfall

Athirappilly Falls is located on the Chalakudy River, which springs in the upper regions of the Western Ghats at the entry to the Sholayarranges, in Athirappilly Panchayat, Chalakudy Taluk, Thrissur District of Kerala, India. It is Kerala’s largest waterfall, at 80 feet tall. Athirapally is only a short drive away from the Vazhachal falls, which are surrounded by deep green forests that are home to many endangered and rare species of flora and animals.

Sakthan Palace

ShakthanThampuran Palace is located in the city of Thrissur, Kerala, India. It was reconstructed in Kerala-Dutch style in 1795 by RamavarmaThampuran of the erstwhile Princely State of Cochin, as well as SakthanThampuran (Greatest ruler of the Cochin dynasty) and is conserved by the Archaeological Department. State converted the palace into a museum in 2005.

Punnathur Kotta

Punnathurkotta is a fort and erstwhile palace near Kottapadi, about 2 kilometres from the GuruvayoorSree Krishna Temple in Kerala’s Thrissur District in South India. Punnathurkotta was previously a local ruler’s palace, but the grounds are now utilised to house the elephants of the Guruvayoor temple and have been renamed Anakkotta (meaning “Elephant Fort”).

The Punnathur Raja also had a naalukettu, a traditional rectangular residence with a central courtyard, on the compound. It is in disrepair and currently houses a training school for Papans (Mahout). There is also a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and Bhagavathy in this complex. Some portions from the popular Malayalam film “OruVadakkanVeeragatha” (starring Mammooty) were shot here.

Winters, from October to March, are the finest time to visit Thrissur. However, you should aim to visit during one of the festivals that are celebrated here with tremendous pomp and display. The famed Thrissur Pooram festival takes place in April or May.

Air
