Shivpuri is a city and municipality in the Shivpuri district of Madhya Pradesh, in central India. It is the administrative capital of Shivpuri District and is located in the Gwalior Division in northwest Madhya Pradesh. At 1,515 feet above sea level, it is the highest point in the area.

Chhatri

Scindia kings constructed elegant, elaborately decorated marble chhatris in Shivpuri. The Chhatris are dedicated to Scindias and are placed in an exquisite Mughal Garden. One belongs to Madhav Rao Scindia, while the other belongs to his mother, Maharani Sakhya Raje Scindia. The Chhatris are a stunning mix of Hindu and Islamic building styles, with Mughal pavilions thrown in for good measure.

George Castle

At a height of 484 metres (1597 feet) above sea level, deep within the Madhav National Park, sits the magnificent George Castle. This fortress was erected in 1911 by Jivaji Rao Scindia, the then-ruler of Gwalior, for King George V of England’s overnight stay when visiting the jungle for a tiger shoot. From here, tourists may enjoy a beautiful view of the lakes as well as a panoramic view of the Kardhai woods.

Madhav National Park

The park is part of the upper Vindhyan highlands and is located near Shivpuri town. Mughal rulers and the Maharaja of Gwalior used the park as a hunting area. In 1958, it was designated as a National Park. The park has two entrance sites, one on NH-25 (Old Jhansi route) approximately 5 kilometres from Shivpuri town and the other on NH-3 (Agra-Mumbai road) about 7 kilometres from Shivpuri towards Gwalior. The Park has a varied environment that includes lakes, woods, and grasslands.

Antelopes such as Nilgai, Chinkara, and Chowsinga, as well as deer such as Chital, Sambar, and Barking Deer, live in the forest. Leopards, wolves, jackals, foxes, wild dogs, wild pigs, porcupines, and pythons have all been seen in the park.
