Shillong is a northeast Indian hill station and Meghalaya State capital. It is popular in Lady Hydari Park for its manicured gardens. In the neighborhood of Ward’s Lake are walking trails. Elephant Falls

The British called the great waterfall after a rock on the ground that looks like an elephant. However, an earthquake in 1897 killed the eerie similarities. Although falls can be visited all year round, moonsoons are the only way to see falls in full force and the beauty is forever inscribed on your memory.  Shillong Peak

Another attraction worth a visit in Shillong, this mountain provides a panoramic view of the scenic landscape, the lofty Himalayas hills, many waterfalls and Bangladesh’s neighboring land. This is the highest part of town located at an altitude of 1965 m from the sea level. The Upper Shillong or Jowai Road helps you to reach this lovely summit. Umiam Lake

Umiam Lake is one of Shillong’s other highlights and is located in Umiam, on the Shillong Guwahati Highway, a short distance from the capital. Don Bosco Museum

If you are a buff of history, don Bosco is the spot to visit. Laitlum Canyons

Ward’s Lake

Mary Help for Christian Cathedral

Shillong is worth a visit to many churches, but Mary aid is a must visit for the Christian cathedral. Established in 1936, this church is renowned for its distintive and striking architecture and an important religious location in Shillong. It is a perfect example for the architects as an example of Gothic Revival. This holy house, perched on top of a hill, offers a sense of serenity and spirituality. The high arcs and stained glass windows, work that displays scenes of the Bible, improves the overall look of the church.

 Still now, after so many years of renovation, Mother Mary’s statue looks graceful and grand. You can see lovely terracotta stops on the cross when you reach the cathedral which depict the life events of the Holy Jesus. The largest prayer hall of the Christians in Eastern Khasi and Ri-Bhoi is said to be the Cathedral of Shillong’s Roman Archdiocese. The church has been built in such an extent that it can withstand earthquake shock waves. It’s full of devotees on Sunday when you are in the city center. Visitors to this sacred structure are urged to spend a week in the quiet surroundings to enjoy its beauty.

Cherrapunjee

Cherrapunjee, located at a distance of 2 hours from Shillong and 1300 meters above water level, is a must-visit. Popular for the heaviest rainfall in the world, this is the world’s wettest spot.
