Vantawng Waterfalls – Mizoram
The Vantawng Falls lies in the district of Serchhip in the Indian State of Mizoram, 5 kilometers south of Thenzawl It is Mizoram’s third largest continuous waterfall. Aizawl is roughly 92 km away.
The largest and most impressive of these waterfalls and cascading in the swiftly flowing rivers of Mizoram is the Vantawng Khawhthla or Vantawng Falle. It lies near Thenzawl in the Vanva River and is named after Vantawnga, a very strong swimmer. Vantawnga was so strong for a swimmer that he could float like a fish in water, but unfortunately a drifting log fell and killed him during one show.
The dropping height is 7 ft. The fall. But because of its pure wooded hillsides it’s hard to get near to, a comfortable sight tower was built.
The largest and most impressive of all cascades on the fast flowing rivers of Mizoram are the Vantawng khawhthla and Vantawng Drops, situated at a distance of 137kms from Aizawl. The village of Vanva is situated close to Thenzawl and is named after Vantawnga, a well-known swimmer. Vantawnga was too fine a swimmers who could hover like a fish in the cascading water, but a driving log came from above and killed him during one of these performances.
The height of the autumn is recorded to be 750 ft and although the pure forest slopes around it make it difficult to get close to, a convenient viewing tower was built.
