This temple honours Shantadurga, the goddess who mediates between Vishnu and Shiva. Shri Shantadurga Temple is a private temple complex belonging to the Goud Saraswat Brahman Samaj in Ponda Taluka, Goa, India. It’s 30 kilometres (19 miles) from Panaji, amid the Kavalem hamlet’s slopes. Shree Shantadurga is the Kuldevi of several Goud Saraswat Brahman families (family deity). A battle between Shiva and Vishnu is mentioned in the Puranas. God Brahma begged to Goddess Parvati, who intervened in the form of Shantadurga, because the struggle was so violent. Shantadurga ended the struggle by holding Shiva in her left hand and Vishnu in her right.

Shantadurga is clutching two serpents on each hand, one for Vishnu and the other for Shiva.

Both are in the Ponda district in North Goa, at Kavlem and Mangeshi, respectively. This majestic temple, located at the foot of Kavlem hamlet in Ponda Taluka, is known for its “pious aura.”
